Living Is Good In Seattle
Last updated on August 24th, 2022
Among the 50 biggest cities in America, Seattle is so popular due to the beauty of the natural environment. Sure, it rains, but the rain is what produces the amazing views of its verdant landscape. Known for being environmentally conscious, dog friendly, and passionate about coffee, Seattle boasts an active outdoor scene, impressive attractions, an appreciation for art and culture, and a thriving job market.
The Outdoor Scene
Whether you’re planning to move to Seattle or just visiting, you’ll find plenty of activities to enjoy outside. Opportunities for skiing, sailing, hiking, camping, and gardening abound. One of the best ways to take in all the natural scenery is cycling on the popular Burke Gilman Trail, commonly referred to as The Burke. For 27 miles, the path weaves its way along lakefront residences, wooded shorelines, and parks like Gas Works, Matthews Beach, and Magnuson.
There are hundreds of parks scattered throughout Seattle. Some of the best parks to explore include:
Discovery Park
Discovery is the city’s largest urban park. Situated on Magnolia Bluff, it offers spectacular views, protected tidal beaches, open meadows, and active sand dunes. It’s a place of quiet and tranquility as well as an outdoor classroom for environmental education.
Seward Park
Seward Park is a 300-acre peninsula that juts out into Lake Washington. It includes swimming areas, boat launches, playgrounds, paved trails, and an environmental learning center. You’ll want to keep an eye out for beautiful bald eagles, which are known to nest there.
Gas Works Park
Once home to the Seattle Gas Light Company gasification plant, Gas Works Park still incorporates pieces from the plant, some of which have been incorporated into a child’s play-barn structure. Also fun for the whole family is Kite Flying Hill, which has an elaborately sculptured sundial built into its summit.
Area Attractions
Seattle is full of incredible attractions. Some favorites include:
Space Needle
This 605-foot-tall spire is a symbol of Seattle and one of the city’s most visited attractions. An observation deck and rotating restaurant with amazing views await you at the top.
Pike Place Market
Home to more than 200 vendors, farmers, and specialty shops, Pike Place Market is a must to experience.
Seattle Underground
After a fire raged through the city in 1889, the streets were raised, leaving an underground network of interconnected tunnels. Now a Seattle attraction, the buried city can be experienced through guided walking tours.
Art and Culture
Seattle is known as the cultural center of the Northwest. It offers abundant opportunities to enjoy exceptional theater, dance, music, and art.
Theater
